George Brunk has devoted much of his life to theological education, joining the faculty of Eastern Mennonite Seminary, Harrisonburg, Va., in 1974, after serving in Italy with Virginia Mennonite Board of Missions. In addition to teaching New Testament at EMS, he was academic dean and vice president from 1979 to 1999. Ordained to the ministry in 1964, George has held many leadership positions in the church, including being a member of the General Board of the Mennonite Church and serving as moderator of the Mennonite Church General Assembly. He has been a member of the Brunk Foundation for Evangelism since 1975. To the interim assignment at AMBS, George brings strong leadership gifts as well as experience and vision for strengthening seminary education to better serve God’s mission in the world.

"My life has been given to the church in mission, education, and administration. My first love is teaching, serving as a midwife in the birthing of new understandings, commitments, and competencies in learners. The focus of that teaching is the Scripture of the church. This text is challenging but does not disappoint; it leaves us with questions but mediates fullness of life.

I also find joy in adminis-trative work. It is satisfying to create the conditions under which others can fulfill their own ministry calling. To advance the cause of Christ and of Christ's church in its service to the world—this is my passion and commitment. This is joyful work!"
