CHM513 and CHM513-3 — Celebrating Christian Ritual in Worship
This course explores the role of rituals and ceremonies in congregational life. It equips leaders for guiding rituals in ways that enrich the congregation’s experience of God, foster unity in the body of Christ, and strengthen the church’s witness in the world. Special attention is given to life cycle rituals, such as weddings and funerals; ongoing rituals in congregational life, such as baptism and communion; and rituals for special occasions, such as healing services or times of closure.

CHM517 — Celtic Spirituality Pilgrimage
This pilgrimage offers opportunity to visit significant Celtic sites in Scotland and Northern England, hear lectures from distinguished scholars and presenters, participate in daily prayer experiences shaped by the Celtic tradition, spend time on retreat, and engage in conversation and reflection with fellow pilgrims. This ancient faith heritage offers gifts to contemporary Christians, such as awareness of the presence of God in daily life, appreciation for the sacrament of the natural world, recognition of the gifts of both solitude and community, and commitment to witness and justice.

CHM638 and CHM638-3 — Spirituality, Pastoral Care and Healing
This course considers spirituality, pastoral counseling, and the church’s ministry of healing as disciplines of pastoral care. It examines and correlates the focus and function of spiritual formation with that of pastoral care and counseling, and explores their place in the church’s concern for healing. Particular attention is given to prayer and rituals related to healing in the church.

CHM631 and CHM631-3 — Family Systems and Pastoral Care
This course focuses on helping participants understand themselves, their families, and their families of origin in the light of their personal spiritual heritage, their church heritage, and systems theory. The aim is to assist persons to become better equipped agents of God’s care as they minister to persons, families, and church groups.

CHM636 and CHM636-3 — Religious & Psychological Assessment
In order to provide appropriate pastoral care, pastors and pastoral counselors need to understand the variety of problems and disorders people may experience in their mental and spiritual health. This course is a study and assessment of these problems and their implications for pastoral care. It includes psychopathology and diagnostic procedures, such as the use of the DSM IV.
