Position: Associate director of development

TIME: Full-time, with the possibility to advance
START DATE: Preferably by June 1, 2008

Objective

Actively participate in the planning and work of the Development Office, with primary focus on the raising of funds for the annual operating budget and endowment of the seminary, as well as participate in special projects. The Associate Director shall assist in building and maintaining strong church-constituency relationships.

Primary responsibilities

Fund Raising Responsibilities:

  • Participate in fund raising efforts for the AMBS annual fund and endowment, including individual, congregational, and district/conference giving (direct solicitation and visitation, phone contacts, thank you calls and notes, etc.), using various giving vehicles such as cash gifts, gifts-in-kind, and planned gifts.
  • Carry out tasks and responsibilities related to fund raising as decided in the Development Council, usually within a prescribed geographic area.

Church Relations Responsibilities:

In cooperation with the Vice President and development and enrollment staffs

  • Attend regional church conferences as scheduled to represent AMBS and receive information from the conferences.
  • Visit constituency congregations to facilitate open communication and promote strong church-seminary relations.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Participate as an active member of the Development Council.
  • Participate in staff meetings when available on campus.
  • Other tasks and assignments as may be negotiated with the AMBS Director of Development.

  • Commitment to Jesus Christ and to the mission of the Mennonite Church
  • Passion for the role of seminary education for the future of the church
  • Knowledge about the Mennonite constituency in the US and Canada
  • Ability to communicate well and to relate well with others
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • Proven track record in development or marketing
  • Willingness and ability to ask for gifts
  • Willingness to travel
  • Ability to work on a team

Requirements

  • Travel in the United States and Canada. A ratio between local and travel assignments of approximately 65% and 35% (“local” means office work and area contacts which do not require overnight absences; “travel” refers to activities which require overnight absences).
