Julia Schmidt
First Mennonite Church, Berne, Ind.

I am currently a junior in high school but cannot wait to graduate in another year. Music is a big part of my life at school since I play the flute in concert band, play the bass guitar in jazz band, and sing in two choirs. I am in National Honors Society and enjoy my history classes the most. In the spring I love playing doubles on the tennis team. Out of school, I enjoy biking, watching movies with friends and camping with family and friends. Our family enjoys spending time at a family cabin in Colorado. In church, I enjoy teaching Bible School each summer and teach Children’s Church throughout the year. Small groups have been a part of my spiritual growth so this year I felt I was ready to lead a small group. I invited a group of freshmen girls to meet with me for encouragement and learning together. Recently my mom and I started a peace group in our congregation to pray and work for peace. After high school I plan on attending a Mennonite college and majoring in peace, justice, and conflict studies.
