Marcellus Day celebration

AMBS will participate in celebrating the faith and witness of Marcellus on October 30.

Marcellus was a centurion who became convinced that as a Christian he could not serve in the Roman army. October 30 is commemorated as the anniversary of the day he was killed for refusing military service.

Events include:

  • St. Marcellus Day Pilgrimage: Walk and pray for peace along the St. Joseph River from Mishawaka to South Bend. Meet at 1:50 at the Civil War Monument, battell Park, 301 W. Mishawaka Ave.
  • St. Marcellus Day Kick-off, 4 p.m. Dramatic re-enactment of the story of Marcellus and testimonies of contemporary conscientious objectors
  • Soup supper, 5:30 p.m.: First Unitarian Church, Michigan and North Shore, South Bend
  • Prayer service, 7 p.m.: Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame; prayer, music and the story of Marcellus. Keynote address by Fr. Richard Rohr, "A new consciousness for peacemaking"
