Sara Wenger Shenk, AMBS president, has been reappointed for another four-year term, 2014-18. This action began with the AMBS board of directors and included actions from Mennonite Church Canada Christian Formation Council and Mennonite Education Agency of Mennonite Church USA.
Bruce Baergen, chair of the AMBS board, said, “After completing a very comprehensive review of Sara’s first term we want to celebrate the outstanding work and commitment she has given to and continues to give to the seminary.”
The review noted, “The combination of her leadership style—which embodies a non-anxious presence while being accessible to the faculty and staff—her creativity, and generative thinking skills are gifts essential for the AMBS community during this time of significant long-term challenges.”
Bruce Baergen added, “Sara has demonstrated both educational and theological wisdom with integrity, as a leader who ‘lives out her faith.’ We look forward to Sara’s ongoing excellent leadership as AMBS continues to work towards new and more creative ways of preparing leaders for the Church in the United States and Canada.”
Wenger Shenk assumed her role on October 1, 2010. Previously she had served as interim dean and associate dean of Eastern Mennonite Seminary, Harrisonburg, Va. At EMS, where she taught for 15 years, she also served as associate professor of Christian practices.
The AMBS administrative cabinet consists of Wenger Shenk; Rebecca Slough, academic dean; Jeffrey L. Miller, chief financial officer; Ron Ringenberg, vice president for administration and advancement; Jewel Gingerich Longenecker, associate dean for leadership education; and Bob Rosa, director of enrollment and student services.
