AMBS recognizes employees

Lois Longenecker and Mary Schertz were two long-term employees honored on May 19 at the annual recognition event.

Lois

Lois Longenecker began working in the AMBS library 30 years ago when her husband began seminary studies. She is assistant librarian and one of her duties is to supervise student workers.

Several former students sent comments to share with Lois:

  • “I remember Lois' kind presence, and ever cheerful presence, as she worked in the library, greeted students like me and answered our questions. On this occasion, I thank her for her service to the AMBS community, and wish her God's best as she retires.”
  • “I really appreciated Lois's help in finding what I was looking for. She blessed the AMBS community very much over the years she was present a part of the AMBS ministry.”
  • “[Lois] was always friendly and had a smile on her face. There was never a time when I saw her lose her cool or become frustrated or angry with her work.”

Mary

Mary Schertz was honored for twenty years as a New Testament professor at AMBS. Steve Schweitzer, a colleague in the Bible department, noted that Mary is committed "to students, to studying the Bible, and to the absolute importance of the Bible for the contemporary Church." He added, "In co-teaching with Mary this term, I have been inspired by her sensitivity to students, mastery of the material, ability to strike an amazing balance between lecturing, leading discussion, and allowing students to drive topics forward. Her enthusiasm is contagious."

Others recognized at the afternoon event were Rebecca Slough, academic dean, for ten years; John Rempel, Andy Brubacher Kaethler and Ron Ringenberg for five years each; and Garry Prieb for three years as he leaves AMBS.
