Leadership Clinics
Monday, January, 23, 2012
Leadership Clinics are day-long workshops that focus on topics related to leadership within the church. Leadership Clinics are always held the Monday of Pastors Week. While many Leadership Clinic participants also choose to attend Pastors Week, it is possible to register and attend one of these events without attending Pastors Week.
Turning Disgust, Demoralization, and Depression into Empowerment for Ministry
The same altruistic and selfless ideals that propel a person into ministry can also make that person vulnerable to three Ds of burnout (disgust, demoralization and depression). Clergy tend to have both unrealistically high self-expectations and a great reluctance to turn to others for help. Explore ways to transform depletion and isolation into renewed sources of energy, purpose, meaning and connection.
This event is in the Current Challenges in Congregational Care Series. Get details here.

Immigration and the Congregation
Explore questions that arise as congregations are more welcoming: What does it mean to be a church that includes differing cultural and racial identities? How do we learn about and deepen convictions on an issue? When is it appropriate to speak into the political arena? Facilitators will share experiences in working at immigration issues in the congregation and community and will invite participants to share their own engagement with these issues.
Presenters: Iris de Leon-Hartshorn, M.A., Director of Transformative Peacemaking, Mennonite Church USA; Saulo Padilla, M.A., Director, Immigration Education Office of Mennonite Central Committee; and Andre Gingerich Stoner, M.A., Director of Interchurch Relations, Mennonite Church USA

Gathering for New Pastors
Pastors in their first years of ministry face many questions: Is this church and community a good fit for me? How do I best minister in this context? How do I navigate the unspoken as well as spoken expectations of the people I serve? Is pastoral ministry truly my calling? This Leadership Clinic will be an opportunity for pastors in their first three to four years of ministry to talk with each other and with leaders from Mennonite Church Canada, Mennonite Church USA and AMBS about their experiences. A daylong session on Monday will be followed by additional sessions on Wednesday noon and Thursday afternoon.

God's story, worship and the arts
Christian worship tells and retells God's unfolding story forming a people of faith. The arts can open our thoughts, emotions, and bodies to the depths of God's story unfolding in our livvs. During this workshop we will study a biblical text together, then create pieces of visual, musical, dramatic or movement art that can draw worshippers deeper into God's continuing story.
