Faith Formation and Spirituality: Children CHM583H

Instructor: Rachel Miller Jacobs, DMin

This course helps students develop the necessary foundations for understanding how the presence of God is known, experienced, and nurtured in the lives of children 13 and under. It has one goal: to deepen students’ capacity to wisely guide children and their adult companions in order to make it as likely as possible that children and their adults will grow in faith and join God’s work of grace, healing, and hope. Class content will cover biblical and theological understandings of the child; the nurture of holistic faith in children and their adults; key practices of household life; trauma and children’s spirituality; and the relationships among households, “fields of love,” congregations, and the wider mission of God.
