About Janeen
Janeen Bertsche Johnson brings to her ministry a passion for worship, music, community and encouraging the gifts of others. She graduated from Bluffton College (now University) and then entered seminary at AMBS, graduating with a Master of Divinity in 1989.
After serving six years on the pastoral team of Lorraine Avenue Mennonite Church in Wichita, Kansas, she returned to AMBS in 1995 to serve as Campus Pastor. She also has roles in Admissions, Alumni Relations and teaching.
In May 2026, Janeen was one of the first two students to earn a Doctor of Ministry in Leadership through AMBS’s program, which launched in January 2023.
She has taught several colloquia and Spiritual Practices courses, and she developed the “Water of Life” course in 2015 and the “Trees of Life” course in 2022. Janeen became an Indiana Master Naturalist in 2008 and led the 4-H Earthcare Club for 13 years. She loves teaching the AMBS community and congregations about trees, prairies, water and other aspects of creation.
Janeen was a member of the Executive Board of Mennonite Church USA (2003–11) and has served on many other conference and denominational committees and boards.
