About Steve

Steve joined AMBS in September 2020 as half-time Program Assistant for the AMBS Church Leadership Center’s Thriving in Ministry grant. In January 2023, he expanded his role to serve full time as Assistant Director of the Journey Missional Leadership Development Program and as Church Leadership Center Program Coordinator.

As Program Coordinator, Steve provides administrative support for the Ministry Integrity Circles and Transition to Leadership programs and oversees the Invite AMBS program, in which seminary faculty and staff serve as presenters or consultants on topics of interest for congregations and organizations. In addition, he assists with Online Short Courses and the annual Pastors & Leaders conference.

Steve also provides administrative support for AMBS’s competency-based Doctor of Ministry (DMin) in Leadership and for Practical Leadership Training, a series of learning modules that are being developed to help students strengthen their skills in administrative leadership and contextual engagement.

For most of his working career, Steve served as a pastor, including spending 14 years in church planting in Germany (both the former East and West). After moving to Goshen, Indiana, he co-pastored at Goshen City Church of the Brethren for eight years. He also helped establish the Elkhart Rise ’n Roll Bakery, where he served as General Manager before coming to AMBS.

Steve met his wife, Sharon, at Goshen College; they have three adult children who attended Mennonite colleges. The Nortons are members of Walnut Hill Mennonite Church in Goshen.
