ELKHART, Indiana (Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary/Mennonite Education Agency) — The Presidential Search Committee of Anabaptist Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Indiana, held its third meeting Feb. 13-14, continuing to follow the established process and timeline.

In this meeting, the group’s primary focus was to interpret the feedback from listening sessions and a stakeholder survey. More than 450 people participated in the survey and listening sessions, which took place in January at AMBS for faculty, staff and students; and across Mennonite Church USA and Mennonite Church Canada, including denominational leaders, presidents of Mennonite colleges and universities, and leaders of color.

“We are most grateful for everyone who took the time to offer feedback, whether in person or through the online survey,” said Miriam Book, search committee chair and a member of the AMBS Board of Directors. “Your comments, concerns and nominations are valuable to us.”

The committee’s work also included further development of the presidential profile that will be used to attract and invite applicants for the role of AMBS president.

“As part of this work, the committee spent time prayerfully considering the attributes we seek in the next president,” said Book.

The profile will soon be available online at ambs.edu/presidentsearch. Interested persons may also email the Presidential Search Committee at the address below to request the presidential profile.

The committee also consulted with President Sara Wenger Shenk, who spoke about the presidency from her perspective and offered some qualities that she would see as valuable in the next president. Wenger Shenk, who has served since 2010, plans to retire June 30, 2019.

The committee expects to begin advertising for the position in early March. Committee members continued to work at developing protocols for interviewing and reference checking.

“Prayer for discernment continues to be a focus of the committee’s work,” said Carlos Romero, executive director of Mennonite Education Agency (MEA).

“On behalf of the search committee, we continue to ask for your prayers as the process moves forward,” said Book.
