These six-week online courses offered by the AMBS Church Leadership Center will orient users to Voices Together, the new worship and song collection that is coming this fall from MennoMedia, Mennonite Church Canada and Mennonite Church USA.
Katie Graber, Ph.D. (at left in the image), is an ethnomusicologist who studies race and ethnicity in a variety of contexts, including Mennonite music, American music and European opera.
Anneli Loepp Thiessen, M.M. (at right in the image), is a Ph.D. student who studies gender and music, contemporary worship music and Anabaptist song.
Katie and Anneli are co-directors of the Anabaptist Worship Network.
A Worship Leader’s Introduction to Voices Together
Oct. 28 – Dec. 15, 2020
This online short course explores the worship resources, styles and approaches that form the unique culture of a church community. Students will gain insight into how their worship can grow in vitality through an understanding of the function of items in the Voices Together hymnal. Students will give and receive feedback on their own and their peers’ worship order design and delivery of spoken elements. Activities and optional assignments will include creating worship services and series, exploring current themes and unfamiliar forms of prayer and experiencing new acts of worship. A Song Leader’s Introduction to Voices Together
Feb. 10 – March 23, 2021
This online short course explores how to effectively teach and lead a variety of music, including intercultural and contemporary styles. Students will give and receive feedback on song leading and accompanying skills and develop the art of putting together an effective musical ensemble. Activities and optional assignments will include learning new songs and their stories, designing song sets and hymn sings, writing short songs for worship and making recordings of songs from the Voices Together hymnal.
